Permission
To access/manage the Categories feature, users are required to have “Categories” role.
How to create a category
1. Navigate to Categories under Products menu.
2. Click “Add category”.
3. Fill in details of a category.
Here’re the settings of each category:
1. Category name*
This field supports a single language and is for admin use only.
- Category title*
Category title is intended for use on the live website and also serves as a fallback for metadata.
- Category url*
To set up a page URL. Category supports a hierarchical URL – the child category’s URL will automatically include the parent category’s URL as a part of its path. For the shops activating LanguageUrls feature, category URL can be set differently in each available language. Read more about How to set up multilingual URL. - User Identifier
- Google product category
This field is intended for use on product feeds. The information will appear as a value in an attribute <g:google_product_category> in some feed types. - Filters
To select the taxonomy tags which are used to filter products in category.
Note: Required permission Filters. - Image(s)
To select the category image(s) intended for use on live website and in metadata. Category supports multiple images to serve multiple uses and supports sorting functionality. For the category’s meta image, users must initially select what image to use in Pages feature. There are 2 options:- Category image – to use the 1st category image. -
- Manual select – to use an image from a manual selection on this page. Options of images are from the media library.
- Layout
To select the layout that determines how the page will be displayed. The available layouts are from Category pages created in Pages feature.
Additionally, Defaults feature allows users to set up the default category layout for all newly created categories.
- Default sort
To select a default sorting option that determines the default display order of products. There are 6 options:
- Recommended: Display products based on a custom order sorted in Categories feature.
- Recently added: Display products based on a created date from new to old.
- Most sold: Display products based on sales from high to low.
- Price low to high: Display products based on selling price from low to high.
- Price high to low: Display products based on selling price from high to low.
- Name ascending: Display products based on product titles alphabetically from A to Z.
